Here’s my review of BitStarz, a pioneer crypto casino that founded back in 2014, over 10 years ago!

How this review was made: I rank all the casinos by their Trust Score. It is formed 50% from my own first-hand testing (My Score), and 50% from real player experiences on Reddit, Bitcointalk and other forums (Community Score).

My verdict

BitStarz is a very experienced and well known Bitcoin and crypto casino that dates back to June 2014, when it was founded with a slightly different name of BitStar.

Based on my Reddit & Bitcointalk search, BitStarz gets a Community Score of 25/50, which I thought BitStarz would rank higher.

The sentiment overview on Reddit and Bitcointalk is somewhat mixed: many people accuse BitStarz of scammy behaviour, but reasons behind those were usually playing from a restricted country, using a VPN to play from a restricted area or playing with a deposit bonus, and breaking the bonus T&C.

On the other side, many people online claim that BitStarz has always worked for them, and customer support and withdrawals are fast.

From my review, BitStarz got a score of 34.5/50, which is a quite good result. On my end everything worked great on the payments department. Also, the UI and website is super-fast beating even Stake, which is usually seen to have the fastest UI. So, technically BitStarz does a very good job.

BitStarz is known as quite strict in their KYC policy. Users who play with the KYC and terms & conditions rules, should have a positive experience on BitStarz.

Their long history starting from really early Bitcoin days in 2014 is a sign that they have been doing many things right. Even though BitStarz doesn’t get a lot of praise among online community, I can still recommend BitStarz. Just make sure your country is accepted there, and follow the Bonus terms if you take one, and you should be good.

My and Community Scores summed up, BitStarz gets a Trust Score of 64/100 (Good), which is a very good result as my rating scale is much more strict than other review sites may have.

Is BitStarz legit?

Yes. Just check if BitStarz accepts players from your country, don’t use a VPN, and provide your ID when asked, you should be fine. BitStarz has one of the fastest UI, fast withdrawals for verified players, and a very good customer support that has gotten a lot of praise.

Community Score

How Community Score is formed: I manually search for user experiences on BitStarz casino from Reddit, Bitcointalk and other forums. When I see a legit message (positive, negative) from a legit user with enough karma or merit, I will copy-paste that message to my review txt file. Based on this file, I will calculate the Community Score.

For BitStarz casino, I manually searched for Reddit and Bitcointalk, as the comment count wasn’t so extensive. For keeping the Community Score calculations fresh, I only used comments that are maximum about 24 months old.

BitStarz gets a Community Score of 25.0 out of 50, getting an average score here.

The amount of legit comments was very limited, and that’s why I only found a total of 15 comments from both forums from a 2 years timeframe.

What kinds of things the Reddit community and forums like Bitcointalk.org actually say about BitStarz? Here’s my selection of the most useful comments and threads.

The most useful Reddit comments

I scrolled dozens of BitStarz discussions on Reddit and here are few picks. These comments might be older than 2 years, but I think they still are valuable to get an overview on the sentiment.

Based on my own search, there are a lot of scam accusations about BitStarz on Reddit. Some of them are probably written by frustrated players, whose account is locked due to KYC (playing from restricted areas) or withdrawals are blocked due to strict bonus T&C terms.

Most complaints go this route: A player has won big, and violated some terms (like the max bet of $5, used a VPN, or played from a restricted area or holds a passport from a restricted area) that are not showed very clearly.

Also, the BitStarz casino interface allows player to bet bigger than the max bet limit $5 (when there is an active bonus), so this is a feature that in my opinion shouldn’t be punished players for.

On the other hand, there are also positive feedback for BitStarz. These players have always had a fluent experience with BitStarz, and the withdrawals have always succeeded and have worked fast. My personal hunch is, that these players probably never used a bonus and have their KYC checks done and passed.

My summary about the Reddit sentiment is, that BitStarz is mostly a legit crypto casino to play in. The negative side is, that you have to be really careful not to break any T&C, and if you take a deposit bonus, play by the bonus rules (See bonus T&C here). In case if BitStarz asks for your identification documents, breaking any rules may cause problems with withdrawals.

Casino overview

Very briefly put, BitStarz is an experienced crypto casino founded in 2014. It offers a great selection of all kinds of games, but there is no sportsbook available.

Short casino history

BitStarz was launched in June 2014 under its original name, BitStars in the domain bitstars.net. Founded during the early, volatile days of cryptocurrency, it was one of the very first online casinos to put traditional casino mechanics with Bitcoin gaming. Managed initially by Dama N.V. (and later by Gareton B.V. under a valid Curaçao license), the platform sought to build institutional trust in an industry that was, at the time, heavily unregulated and flooded with anonymous, unverified operators and dice sites.

Personally, I remember the BitStars website well. It feels so funny how far we have gone from the crypto days from 2014. We should have bought so much more Bitcoin back then.

Also for BitStarz, the casino is already 12 years old! So many casinos have disappeared, but not this one. So I think BitStarz has done many things right, even though it is not the most popular crypto casino with newer casinos (and Stake) putting a lot of pressure to the older legacy casinos.

Bonuses

My rating for bonuses values wagering the most (max 5p.), because that decides if the bonus is even worth taking. Bonus value (max 2p.) tells how high the bonus is capped. Bonus terms (max 3p.) looks for unfair terms that may affect the bonus value. See the full review methodology here.

The 180 free spins is rewarded in 20 spin increments. The first 20 spins are awarded right away and the rest during 8 days, 20 spins daily. The minimum deposit is €20 in BTC.

Wagering requirements 3/5

The wagering requirement is relatively average with 40x bonus. This gets BitStarz 3/5 here based on my review methodology.

Example: If you deposit 1000€ in crypto, you will get a 100% bonus of 1000€. Your balance will be then 2000€. To complete the wagering, you have to wager 40 x 1000€ = 40 000€ in bets.

Bonus value 2/2

The bonus value of BitStarz is (and has always been) excellent. In around 2018-2021 many casinos offered maximum bonus amounts of 1 BTC or more. Recently, many casinos have capped their bonuses to around, 1000€, but not BitStarz.

A maximum bonus amount of 1 BTC gets BitStarz earned 3/3 on here.

Additional 180 free spins is a good plus to the bonus.

Bonus terms 1.5/3

I analyzed the whole BitStarz bonus T&C. Generally, the terms are acceptable, but 7 days timeframe for the deposit bonus is too harsh. Also, the free spins have a lot of limitations. These things drop the score to 1.5/3 here.

Here are the most important findings:

• You must wager the bonus amount 40x before you can withdraw it.
• Welcome bonuses expiry in 7 days.
• KYC is mandatory before you can withdraw any bonus winnings.
• To withdraw any “free” winnings, you must make a minimum deposit of at least €20 (about 0.00022 BTC).
• The maximum winnings from free bonuses is €100 (about 0.00112 BTC), and the free spins winnings must also be wagered 40x.
• Free spins expire within 24 hours.
• Many countries are excluded from free spins or deposit bonuses (see the full list below).
• The maximum bet is €5 (about 0.00006 BTC) when you have an active bonus.
• Standard game contribution: Most slots contribute 100% to wagering, but table and live games contribute only 5%.

Deposits & withdrawals

100% transparency: I test the casinos making few smaller deposits and withdrawals. As a Finnish citizen, everything should work well for me KYC-wise.

However, Community Score follows Reddit & forum sentiment. That tracks KYC policies, high rollers, player experiences all over the world and how withdrawals work on a larger scale.

Deposits 2/2

All crypto deposits worked fine and almost instantly in my tests on BitStarz. One Litecoin deposit was credited in 3 minutes and 50 seconds time, which is awesome. Bitcoin deposits passed through in about 5 minutes, with significantly higher network fees than LTC. There are no fees on the deposits.

Like many of you know already, deposits work usually 100% in all casinos. So no surprises on BitStarz here.

Minimum deposit amounts vary between crypto, but here are few examples (at least now):

• Bitcoin: about 6€ in BTC
• Litecoin and Dogecoin: between 1-2€
• USDT: about 10 USDT
• USDC: about 20 USDC

Withdrawals 3/3

The average withdrawal speed is about 2 minutes, according to BitStarz cashier data. Personally, I had no problems withdrawing from BitStarz. One Litecoin withdrawal took around 6 minutes to complete, which is great. Bitcoin withdrawals worked the same way in under 10 minutes, of course the network confirmations took some time for all to finish.

The withdrawals don’t have any extra fees, and the cashier shows links to transaction id’s which is great.

Full points for BitStarz for withdrawals, everything is in order and withdrawals are automated (of course unless they go to a manual check due to bigger size etc.). My experiences were flawless here.

Withdrawal limits & terms 2/3

Here are few examples of withdrawal limts.

• Bitcoin: about 20€
• Litecoin and Dogecoin: about 15€
• USDT: about 50 USDT (about 40€)
• USDC: about 50€

They are a bit on the higher side, especially on the stablecoins. The exact amounts can be seen from the cashier when you try to make a cashout and go forward on the screens.

The deposits have to be wagered only 1x, which is acceptable anti-money laundering rule.

On the withdrawal terms, Clause 8.7.3 states that “BitStarz.com reserves the right to payout substantial wins in monthly installments”. The exact limits are not mentioned, so there is some (unknown) maximum withdrawal limit. This is a small minus, so I give BitStarz 2/3 here. Everything else is ok here.

Crypto support 2/2

BitStarz offers a very good support for different cryptos including lower cost networks: BTC, ETH, LTC, DOGE, BCH, USDT, USDC, ADA, TRX, XRP, BNB & SOL.

BitStarz is a so called hybrid crypto casino and accepts also these fiat currencies: USD, EUR, NOK, RUB, CAD, NZD, JPY & AUD.

Games

Games & providers 3/3

Here’s a breakdown by game type on BitStarz’s selection.

• Slots: 5000 – 7000+ titles including classic, 3D and video slots.
• Jackpot games: 150+ games, like the famous Mega Moolah for instance.
• BitStarz Originals: There are 13 in-house developed provably fair games like Crash, Plinko, Dice and Mines. The more simple ones have a RTP of 98% (good), but the fancier might have a lower RTP.
• Table Games: 250+ versions of Poker, Blackjack and Roulette (without a live dealer).
• The total casino game amount: 5000 – 7000+ depending on your location.

An excellent games selection that scores 3/3 easily. Even though the game provider count is on the good (but not excellent) side with 50, the game count of up to 7000+ makes the score go to the maximum here.

BitStarz has made deals with at least 50 software providers, as that was the number I got from my tests from Finland.

Live casino 1/2

There are 100+ live casino tables provided by Evolution Gaming, Vivo Gaming and Authentic Gaming. There are the basic choices like Blackjack, Roulette, Baccarat and game show type games like Crazy Time.

The live provider selection could be wider with more major providers (adding Pragmatic Play live for instance). Also, the search for live providers is a bit lacking. Therefore a lower score on this section.

Originals & fairness 1/2

BitStarz has Provably Fair games which allow players to verify the randomness of outcomes using cryptographic seeds.

There is also a selection of in-house made BitStarz Original games that are marketed as 100% provably fair.

The RTPs (Return to player %) could be better on these originals, as they are mostly 98%. Also, the RTP information is somewhat hard to find as there is no list of Originals RTPs anywhere, or a mention in the game logos.

This, and the lower count of Originals games drops the score a bit compared to other casinos.

RTP transparency 0.5/2

With the BitStarz interface update, the search and filter tools have been overhauled. You can now sort games by Game Provider, A-Z, Popularity and Novelty (Uniqueness I guess). Unfortunately I couldn’t find a way to search games for highest RTP %, which is a pity.

The RTP’s can be found on some slots when going to the information screen and scrolling the long guide text down, but this is quite tricky.

The more simple BitStarz Originals games have a RTP of 98% (good), but the fancier exclusive slots might have a lower RTP. So remember to check them before starting, if RTPs are important to you.

In a nutshell BitStarz scores only 0.5/2 out of this section. The reason is, that the RTP transparency is only on a standard level: RTP is only visible inside individual slots or games.

There are no special RTP features like enhanced RTP slots, or a way to search games by highest RTP. Also, the RTPs on Originals are quite hidden and there is no clear list of the RTPs anywhere. This is a category BitStarz could easily do better and the score on games would increase a lot!

Also, like you can see from the screenshot above, I wish there would be a clear RTP panels next to each slot game. Also, sorting the games with the highest RTP would be cool.

Betting 0/1

BitStarz doesn’t offer any sports or eSports betting, so it rates 0/1 on this category.

Usability & support

Desktop usability3/3

In my tests, the BitStarz lobby and game selection screen worked fine. The response speed was good enough and each game launched almost instantly.

Cashier is simple to use and the available bonuses are displayed in the deposit screen. The withdraw/cashout button could be placed in a better spot, as it needs to be found through the deposit button, which is a bit weird.

Visually, BitStarz looks pretty similar than 99% of crypto casinos these days, modern, polished and the theme is dark slate colored. Nothing wrong here.

These things summed, BitStarz gets 3/3 on desktop usability.

Mobile usability3/3

For some reason, BitStarz works even more fluently on mobile devices, tested on iPhone 14 Pro and Chrome.

It’s not slow on desktop, but on mobile the menus open instantly and responsiveness (mobile functionality) is in order. Also, all buttons and menu items are large enough for a good usability.

In a nutshell, the mobile design is responsive, usability is good and especially speed is awesome, so BitStarz earns 3/3 here.

Customer support4/4

BitStarz offers support 24/7 on website live chat, and nowadays also on iMessage and Telegram chats.

On my support testing, I couldn’t fool the support asking for basic questions about the bonuses (that some other casino supports just couldn’t pass, like BC.game and Coins.game for instance).

The answers were correct, very fast and polite.

BitStarz has also won many customer support awards (like from CasinoMeister website), so there is also some proof behind the support quality and I wasn’t just lucky.

As a whole customer support is professional, fast, and the options are very extensive compared to other casinos. I give now BitStarz a full 4/4 here, and may return testing them in the future if the quality is consistent.

Security & transparency

On this chapter I will scan the terms & conditions, inspect the KYC policy & general casino reputation. Still, everything you see here is written by me. I only use AI only to crunch long walls of legal text.

Licensing & transparency 2/2

BitStarz is managed by Gareton B.V., and the company is incorporated in Curaçao with registration number 160656.

BitStarz is also licensed and authorized by the Curaçao Gaming Authority (license no.OGL/2024/165/0185).

Everything is on a standard level, so 2/2 on this category.

T&C Fairness 1/2

Here are my findings on the BitStarz terms & conditions.

• The one account rule: You are limited to one account per person, household or IP address. Also, an account is flagged as inactive after just six months of inactivity, triggering a minimum 5 EUR monthly admin charge.
• The use of VPN is strictly prohibited.
• 1x deposit wagering: To prevent money laundering, your deposit must be wagered at least once (1x) before you can withdraw it. This is a standard rule in almost all online casinos, and 1x is acceptable.
• All deposits must be made from your accounts, credit cards or crypto wallets. Meaning the legal names must match. Otherwise BitStarz has the right to confiscate all winnings.

KYC Policy 1/2

Here’s the most important things I found related to KYC things on BitStarz terms.

• KYC: BitStarz reserves the right to ask for an ID or a proof of address, or even request a phone call to verify your identity. This is, even if you play with crypto.
• Clause 8.7.11 has a strict verification requirement: the casino reserves the right to make a physical phone call to your registered number as a KYC procedure. If support teams cannot successfully reach you via phone or email within exactly two weeks of a withdrawal request, the account is permanently locked for failed verification. So, be swift on KYC verifications if the staff asks for your IDs!

Reputation & history 2/2

I couldn’t find any major red flags or big historical issues about BitStarz Casino.

Like I have wrote before in Reddit Sentiment chapter, most problems are among withdrawal denials and very strict KYC policy. There is also some people claiming that BitStarz Originals games would not be “true” provably fair games.

Based on my googling, BitStarz is considered one of the most solvent crypto casinos due to its age and liquidity. Most major reviews classify it as a reputable and reliable platform with high liquidity for large payouts, though bigger wins may be paid in monthly installments as their T&C state.

Other than that, BitStarz passes this chapter with clean papers. I couldn’t find any red flags on BitStarz’s history. Also, like BitStarz heavily advertises on their footer, they have won numerous awards from different instances (like Best Casino or Best Support). It’s good to notice these instances are mostly other casino review (affiliate) sites. This tells me at least the fact that BitStarz probably pays its affiliate commissions on time (which is also a somewhat good sign, as they should have the liquidity to ALSO pay the winning players).

As a quick sidenote, BitStarz is also very commonly seen on many casino conventions and fairs all around the world. Personally, I have met numerous staff members of BitStarz and one of the owners few years ago in casino affiliate convention in Amsterdam. Well, this is just a minor detail, but in overall, adds credibility and trust.

Many 100% anonymously run casinos are never appearing in these happenings, but BitStarz is a nice exception to that.

Responsible gambling 2/2

BitStarz maintains a very short Responsible Gaming Policy found from their Help -> Play Safe page. There is only a one page there you can contact the support, help to activate self-exclusion and few links with help in gambling problems.

However, in My Profile, there is a very extensive limit screen that allows almost every limitation you can imagine of. For a player that knows gambling is a problem, this is very good. You can even self-exclude yourself for a life time.

Website security: The site uses standard SSL encryption. Pretty standard stuff for all crypto casinos.

Account security: BitStarz supports Two-Factor Authentication (2FA), which is strongly recommended. It’s a great way to make your account a lot more safe.
